Monty

I have been a little distracted these last few weeks because my little cat has been ill. He wasn't well when we came back from holiday at the end of October & has deteriorated, more especially over the last week or so. We don't know how old he was but he adopted us in 1994. We thought at the time that he was a stray kitten but he didn't really get much bigger over the years, and didn't actually look any older so he could be any age. Today was his time. I have balled my eyes out for days but the vet said it was cruel to make him stay longer. So today my little Monty has gone, just as cute as the day he first sneaked into our house all those years ago. and with such a beautiful temperament. My family buried him under the shade of the cherry tree.
I do understand he was 'just' a cat and not a family member but I dont seem to be understanding it very well.

  1. I am so sorry for your loss, Lizzie. I maintain pets are family members so it is natural to be grieving so. Take care!

  2. Hello Lizzie
I'm sorry to hear about Monty and your pain. I have felt that pain before.

Please don't listen to those who say the words 'just a cat' - as Middle Way said and the thought is the same in our house, they are members of your family and deserve all the respect you can give them.

Hard to hear at this time but another will come along and fill that gap. It may take a while but the hole will be filled. ((hugs))
    Take care

  3. I'm sorry for your loss. I don't think there is any such thing as 'just' a pet. My dog is a valuable part of my life and I will as devastated, if not more-so when she goes than most people in my life. I feel your pain.

  4. I am sad for you Lizzie. I don't know what I would do without my kitty even though she wakes me up at 4am. My RV would be empty without her.

  5. I missed this yesterday but wanted to say that I do understand how you're feeling now. I see my pets as family members - we don't all have to be of the same species to belong together and have a special connection. People laughed when I cried at the loss of our pet rat, but whether they believe it or not, we had a bond and I still think about her.

  7. They're not 'just a cat'.....they definitely ARE a member of your family. They give you just as much love as you give them, so it's only to be expected that we grieve when they go.

    Take care x

  8. Pets are family members, no question about that. I'm sorry to read about your "boy's" death. I cried my eyes out over a chicken dying & nobody could understand that: cats & dogs are far closer to us & our hearts than a chicken.
